Bumbershoot Bumbermania Design

What

Bumbershoot is a music and arts festival with attendance of 20k-40k targeted for Seattle families. Within it, a section of their arts schedule, Bumbermania, featured a wrestling championship as part of their arts schedule. Given their branding assets (guidelines, colors, logo, and text structures), I decided to continue their punk aesthetics, capturing the moment in the mat as wrestlers are about to explore their storyline.

The ask

Design a poster for a section of the Grit City Wrestling School, Bumbermania, and create the additional digital assets for socials and onsite screens in your style."

So I asked for any assets I could use, which included photographs from the year prior and guides to the style. “Do anything you want, make it yours,” Christina Holding, Marketing Chief Officer.

I didn’t do that… to uphold the branding was to keep the customer at ease and not confuse them. Therefore, I set out to create a design that spoke to the punk aesthetic, yet stepped into my world of storytelling and a nod to the players’ comic-like backstories.

Inspiration: Moments

I drew inspiration from Muhammad Ali's iconic photograph and punk's aggressive aesthetic, capturing the raw moment of a knockout with fans swarming around. I wanted to capture that moment in the ring.
